The Reproductive Freedom Alliance (RFA) is a nonpartisan coalition of 24 governors working together to protect and expand reproductive freedom. Formed in 2023, RFA identified an opportunity to give its members a centralized resource for exploring state policies related to reproductive freedom. The result was TRACE, an interactive database designed to organize complex policy information in a clear, accessible way.

The Situation

The Reproductive Freedom Alliance envisioned a database that would track reproductive freedom policies across states and make that information readily available to its members. Bringing the idea to life required more than building a repository of policy content. RFA needed a clean, intuitive interface that could help users explore complex information without making the experience feel complicated or overwhelming.

RFA engaged AGP to define the database goals and audience, shape the user experience, and guide the content development process. Together, the teams created a structure that would help RFA organize, maintain, and share state-level policy information more effectively.

The Work

AGP began with a discovery phase to translate RFA’s initial concept into a clear digital experience. The team developed an early wireframe for the database and proposed additional features that could help users understand the information in context. After RFA approved the concept, AGP moved into design and development.

The engagement brought together UX, design, development, quality assurance, and project management. In addition to the core policy database, AGP designed and implemented state overview pages that give users a closer look at policies within individual states. The completed experience also included a glossary and methodology page to help users interpret the information and understand how it was organized.

Throughout the project, AGP helped RFA evaluate its options, make informed decisions, and solve challenges with clear explanations and creative recommendations. The final deliverables included the site wireframes, visual design, and completed TRACE database site.

The Results

TRACE gave RFA an interactive, easy-to-use resource that brings policy information and statutory language together in one place. With supporting state overviews, a glossary, and a methodology page, the database gives members a clearer context for understanding and using the information.

Feedback from both RFA and its members points to the value of the finished experience. In a member survey, one respondent described TRACE as “so incredibly helpful,” specifically highlighting the ability to access statutory language readily. RFA also praised AGP’s ability to turn its vision into an interactive resource, provide understandable explanations, offer creative solutions, and remain responsive throughout the engagement.

The collaboration has continued beyond the original project. RFA retained AGP to provide ongoing support for the TRACE database and its main organizational website, extending the relationship from a single digital build into continued technology support.

AGP was an excellent partner in bringing our vision for this website to life in a format that’s interactive and easy-to-use for our members. They made our decision making easier by providing easy-to-understand explanations of our options and presenting creative solutions to problems. I was continuously impressed by how responsive the team was; they were a pleasure to work with.
